Edward Murphy

Born in Indianapolis and raised outside Zionsville, Indiana, I’m the eldest of three, with a father who transitioned from union carpentry to owning a garage door company, and a devoted stay-at-home mother. I graduated from Pike High School, then earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington, before attending its School of Law. There, I met my wife, Kathi, and with her support, financed my legal education.

During law school, I secured a clerkship with Indiana Supreme Court Judge Norman Arterburn, which involved researching for what would become the Indiana Trial Rules. Post-clerkship, I joined Livingston, Dildine, Haynie and Yoder, shifting to litigation after Gil Haynie’s sudden passing. My legal practice grew to include family law, general litigation, and defense for health care providers, with notable clients like Ford Motor Company and major insurance firms. I’ve led successful defenses in multimillion-dollar cases, contributing to my accolades as a Best Attorneys in America and Super Lawyer for over two decades.

Passionate about trial work and helping those with significant injuries, I believe in providing competent, empathetic legal representation, following the principle that every client is family.

Edmond W. Foley

South Bend has been my home for the majority of my life, starting from my high school years at St. Joseph High School to my accounting and law degrees from the University of Notre Dame. My career began in accounting, working for Touche Ross in Chicago, but the pull towards law was irresistible. Attending Notre Dame Law School was a transformative experience, leading me back to Chicago to work in insurance defense before finally returning to South Bend. In 1995, my partner at the time, Doug Small (retired in 2023) and I established Foley & Small, now called Foley & Murphy. This was driven by a shared desire to advocate for those harmed by negligence.

With years of experience working with insurance companies, I’ve gained a unique perspective that significantly benefits our clients who’ve suffered due to others’ carelessness. Our mission extends beyond seeking financial reparation; at Foley & Murphy, we aim to provide a caring, familial environment to our clients, supporting them through loss and recovery.

If you’re facing difficulties due to an injury or other losses, we invite you to reach out. Join our family at Foley & Murphy, and let’s work together towards your recovery.
